Renault Megane Coupe 2009

Renault Megane Coupe 2009

I would like to write a little review of 2009 Renault Megane Coupe. As I noticed there isn’t much noise over the Internet about this car. You have Toyota, Honda, Fiat and VW everywhere in the media, magazines, youtube, forums… and what is the most disturbing, on the roads. And Renault? Just few short reviews around the premiere date and afterwards… nothing – complete silence. And I assure You that it’s not about their cars being worse than these mentioned above. A little warning is needed here in the beginning: This review will be extremely subjective. Read more…

Focus RS chaser revealed

Focus RS vs Renault Clio Sport at Millbrook

Focus RS vs ?? at Millbrook

Autocar.co.uk just revealed the Focus RS chaser from the video published a week ago.The video echoed through the internet motoring fans. We started guessing and speculating about who is the “lime green” car keeping up and reflecting in Ford’s body in few shots.

My favourite votes were: Lotus Exige or Porsche 911… I even saw Lambo comments (at least colour fits very good). These 3 would complement RS’s speed and agility. But the real answer is a lot more “down to earth”… Check out the video…

China bans Renault

Renault banned in China

Renault banned in China

I just read the news, that China refuses to import Renault cars due to: “safety problems” found by China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision. It have never been more obvious that we are talking about politics here, not the real quality problem.

Renault is famous of their cars safety. All currently sold passenger cars got the highest notes in Euro NCAP safety tests. On the other hand we have China, that produces cars, that are… how to say… “safe the other way” (meaning rubbish). In all NCAP tests, they all got very low safety ratings. And they still allow to drive them there.

Yet they refuse to accept the Renault cars. They blacklisted Laguna, Scenic and Megane models. And nobody knows (besides the Chinese agency) what are the safety problems in particular.
AFAIK there is no special car series produced for Chinese market – Renault is producing the cars for all regions in few of their factories. So it’s pretty safe to assume that Renault didn’t try to sell them “worse quality” versions, as they all come from the same factories.

I think that this ban has something to do with giving he exiled Tibetan spiritual leader – the Dalai Lama, honorary citizenship of Paris three days ago. The award was condemned by Chinese government.

7 cool cars you can’t get in US… yet (?)

June 5th, 2009 Jim 2 comments

The world car market is a complicated thing. Every major producer has it’s strategy, like every country has it’s local taste and characteristic. For ex. the US market doesn’t like diesel engines, don’t care about interior design much, must have huge bumpers. Europe on the other hand likes smaller cars, don’t use hybrids (cause diesel is cheap) and has worse prices on cars :)

Also there are international brands that work only locally. French trio: Renault, Citroen and Peugeot are not present in US. Fiat and Alfa planned to go accross the ocean in 2010 – but due to current car industry situation, nobody knows if they will. Also brands already present in US, choose models that will be sold in US and Europe separately.

Renault, Alfa, Opel, Honda

Renault, Alfa, Opel, Honda...

Below You will find a list of 7 cars, that I find to go under category “fun” cars. hey are available to buy in Europe, but were not (so far) introduced to the US buyer. They’re all affordable options.
