GT86 on sale in Europe: June 2012! Toyota failed… Again…

They did it again… The roumours about Toybaru or “Celica/Supra” return were pretty hot. Some hints were released from time to time. I was eagerly anticipating what happens in this project. They had it all figured out pretty nice. Cooperation with Subaru, oldfashioned 2.0l boxer engine, RWD, coupe looks of FT-86 concept. Promising!

And we waited… Personally I was REALLY hoping that their motoring feel will somehow turn, and they will get more interesting and make use of the technological potential they have. But no… They did it again.

Few days ago they released the official pictures and info. The Toyota GT86 will debut in Tokio. And it’s DULL. It looks like old Miata mixed with Nissan 350Z after redneck tunning. (no offence to Nissan – maybe it’s just the color).  They wasted such a nice prototype! I don’t want to repeat myself and write about how they fail to make an interesting car… for decades now… So lets cut this short.

It will go on sale in Europe around June 2012. Debut in Europ during Geneva Motor Show.

One more thing! If Toyota fails with the looks so badly – Subaru wins! And that is a pretty rewarding option for those who respect this car maker :) Their version (called BRZ) looks much better – and there is still hope that it will keep the good looks :) Plus – maybe there will be 4WD version + some stronger engine??
