New Toyota Supra – no longer 2011… 2013?

Maybe 2013...

It’s time to get back to the topic. What’s going on with Supra? Another rumors are around the press. New launch date would be 2013. Postponed again. And again for 2 years. I don’t know if they got scared of the sport topic? By massive failure as Lexus LFA is? Toyota keeps all the fans in suspense. The first date and concept pictures of new Supra were saying: 2009. Then they made a little mess with FT-HS (aka Toybaru) model. I was hoping that Toyota will get back to serious motoring. Having both FT-HS and Supra would be amazing. Like the old days: Celica and Supra.

Affordable sport car – made with cooperation with motoring legend – Subaru, with boxer engine. And second – V8, high end, performance machine – Supra. Now? Probably it will be the same car. It’s not bad, but one is worse than two :) And we cannot hope to compete with the benchmark like Nissan GT-R. But Subaru engine + hybrid boost – the idea just makes me smile.

Hybrid idea is not so bad. As far as hybrids are being victims of eco-brainwashing, they really can add an extra value to the performance. But Toyota should be careful here: don’t go in Honda’s direction. Don’t spoil the image with some CRZ-like shopping cart. That’s neither fast or driveable or goodlooking or even cheap.

So… all Supra fans – be patient.  The concept presented live in Detroit was great. Now let’s see some more on the streets.

about the new FT-HS, i think it is a brilliant design and brilliant concept although i have heard that it may be the new supra which would be fine but i have seen the other four modles of the where all four seater sports coupes with a troditional strait 6 and was always good at cornering. the new FT-HS may be good at cornering but the new designe meens it may not be a true supra it would be sort of like porsche making the next 911 front engined, not as good
