French motoring fans had recently many reasons to be proud of. WRC trophies of Citroen. F1 results of Renault, Peugeot winning LeMans, and their RCZ model… And now Citroen is showing new interesting direction. Just take a look at first pictures and some technical data of production version DS4 model, which official premiere was made during Paris Motor Show few weeks ago. Citroen continues the process of company image adjustment. After a success of DS3, they decided to show another of the breed.
The car is the size of a regular hatchback
The “coupe looks” will grab the attention of people You pass by. French engineers decided that the heart of the car will be a diesel. e-HDI providing 110 or 160 HP, which will be controlled by electronic gearbox and Start/Stop system. This solution allows to start the engine in0,4 seconds. Energy produced during breaking will be directed to the alternator, where electronics will distribute it to different car systems. Besides the diesel, there will be 1.6 liter gasoline engine. It will produce, depending on version 120, 155 and 200 HP.
The passengers of this 4-seater will have 370 liters of trunk… Bla bla bla… You can find this all in manufacturer’s catalogs.
The point is. It will hit the market in 2011. The car looks good, and knowing the Citroen – it will be cheap and have a pretty decent value for money. The engines are delivered by Mini – so there is some trained muscle under the hood.

Watch and learn VW? Maybe it’s exaggerating. But I wouldn’t be myself without poking VW in the eye. They can make good cars. But they don’t know how to “sell” them (at least I don’t feel their style). It’s like they know they’re boring. And the moment they launch something more fun, they raise the price to the level where they cannot compete with other brands -> see Scirocco, or Passat CC. 200 HP pseudo coupe around 5k EURO more expensive than competition. For what? The VW brand? No thank You… And Citroen? Probably the top of DS4 range will be priced around where the Scirocco starts.

Extra question for You: Some of You might remember what DS sands for when talking about Citroen? For those of You who don’t know the meaning of these 2 letters (especially from USA and other countries not familiar with french cars) – google the answer. It’s a legend that deserves separate article:)
