Audi RS3 – 400 HP in a hatchback?

Audi TT-RS

Looks like Audi is not afraid of so called “world crisis”. What more: doesn’t seem to bother caring about brainwashed eco fashion. Their pretty expensive and well made cars are still selling good. And the company is trying to fill another niche on the market, presenting a new sporty model. There are rumours , that during the next Frankfurt Car Show Audi will show the RS3 model. It would be RS series smallest addition (along A4, A6 and TT). And finally a real deal hot hatch from Audi, that can probably spin this car segment a little. What is most interesting: the parameters of this hot hatch are pretty impressive.

It will have all wheel drive, stiffer suspension and serious brakes. Under the hood we can expect the engine from TT-RS model – 5 cylinder unit generates 340 HP and 450 Nm (331 lb/ft) of torque. Some say that these numbers will be even more impressive, claiming that exclusively for this model the engine will get extra 60 HP. It all depends if Audi want to compete using this “family hatchback” with their supercar: R8 :) As 400 HP would be a record of some kind in this segment.

The news are great, especially regarding recent information from Porsche, that it’s getting more “Volkswagenish”. Sad story…

And Focus RS would get a decent competitor… well… probably will be massacred by this Audi (by its performance, not looks). But at the same time, we can be sure it will be pretty more expensive. Time will show the details. I believe that after success with Focus RS, rumours about RS3 are pretty good motivation to keep Ford folks working on the next generation. Let’s hope they will keep up with the Germans.
