The best Mini of all times (or not?)
Mini has just recently presented a model that according to it’s creators will be “the best Mini of all times”. It goes by the name: John Cooper Works World Championship 50. Will be painted with British Racing Green colour, which is known to be used on racing cars representing Great Britain. The number 50 stands for the anniversary of old Mini success in Monte Carlo rally competition.

John Cooper Works World Championship 50
This exclusive series
…will consist of 250 models and only distributed in Europe (sorry US, again…). Each model will be numbered and signed by John Cooper.
It will be powered by 1,6 litre turbocharged 211 HP engine. Will have 17 inch black alloy wheels, xenon front lights with black internal reflectors and some carbon finishing on mirrors and diffuser. Some more carbon fibre can be found inside the car as a decoration of the interior. You will have the leather sport seats with heating, Harman Kardon sound system, navigation etc.

This car will be top of the new Mini class. It will be super exclusive, branded, with all the super interior equipment… All car journalists will write about how wild it drives and how good it is…
Sounds great?
No. Here we come to the problem and the reason why it doesn’t fit “the best” badge of all times.
First: It is rumoured to cost over 100k GBP (164k USD!!!). And that’s just sick.
Second: What is all this equipment for? It only makes the car weight to rise and meet somewhere around the weight of a small house. And this is supposed to be a “50 anniversary edition” of the original Mini? The Mini that didn’t even allow You to roll down the side windows? Not mentioning it’s small engine, no aircon and sound. It was a totally basic rally car… that beat all the stronger competition.
I really believe that they should do this the opposite way. They should strip down the original mini, leave only steering wheel, sport seats. Take away the aircon, radio, leather, any sound systems. This would save about 400 – 600 lbs. And then fit in some tuned engine and suspension.

Then we would have a real performance car! And extremely limited edition.
Instead we have a toy for rich girls (aka shopping cart). The “best Mini” that will be chewed by any STI or Evo going backwards. Not comparing the performance on track and that each of these 2 Japanese guys cost one third of “the best” Mini. All that makes this car funny – and funny is somehow opposite to “best”. Maybe it will be “best” among new Minis, but since we talk about all times… LOL.
